Bouwen in Amsterdam werd tussen 1973 en 1992 in zestig afleveringen gepubliceerd door de Vereniging Vrienden van de Amsterdamse Binnenstad, in samenwerking met het Bureau Monumenten en Archeologie en het Stadsarchief Amsterdam. In 2007 zijn deze afleveringen met een geintegreerd register herdrukt in boekvorm, in verbeterde druk. De auteur, zowel theoretisch als praktisch geschoold, schreef het standaardwerk aan de hand van alle mogelijke architectonische details.
