According to the most recent predictions, this ageing society will not only affect and increase the demand for health care, but also health care providers as health care professionals themselves will retire in the near future.A possible solution for this problem would be to let patients manage their - chronic - disease at home by means of so-called e-health self-management. This allows patients to stay in contact with their health care professional while managing specific parts of their therapy by means of information and communication technology (ICT). Not only may this increase the wellbeing of patients, also the pressure on the health care system may be somewhat relieved. This research has investigated the most relevant factors that may affect patients’ acceptance of these e-health services. One of the outcomes is that not only patients’ performance expectancy of e-health services is relevant/crucial to their acceptance of e-health, but also their perceived quality of care and their highest educational level. As for future research, this study recommends additional research on patients’ acceptance over a longer period of time (longitudinal).Furthermore, considering the increasing freedom of choice with regard to health care insurance policies, therapies and hospitals, the understanding of ‘patient satisfaction’ should be improved. In this respect, the way in which patients come to a judgment based upon their experiences is especially important considering the increased relevance of patient satisfaction.
