Botero is afkomstig uit Colombia, en zijn werk is geïnspireerd door herinneringen aan zijn vaderland, met de Latijns-Amerikaanse cultuur, de woeste natuur en de politieke verwikkelingen. Botero comes from Colombia and his work is inspired by memories by memories of his native land, with its Latin-American culture, untamed natural landscapes and tumultuous political scene. Botero also comments on contemporary world events: he depicts the tortures inflicted in Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison as seen through the filter of his imagination. This book and the associated exhibition are a new demonstration of his unique talent.
