Caroline Holden's parents divorced when she was a teenager, she's recovered from it to her best abilities but this has resulted in a lacking communication between the three of them. Caroline, not having been confronted with death and mortality on such a remarkable front has in fact undertaken the journey to how she would, eventually, like to be mourned.
