Change IT in six A framework for organisational change in the fifth technology revolution

Paperback147 pagina’sEngels
"One of the consequences of the fifth technology revolution is that IT has upset the traditional balance between competing organisations. Innovations in technology follow one after the other and adopting new IT solutions has become an issue of vital importance; The Only Constant Is Change seems today's device.

On the side of management and employees the need for constant adaptation requires an understanding of the possibilities and limitations of technology, flexibility in processes and organisational structures, in addition to pro-activity and learning skills.

Traditional project management methods and change management approaches? where there is too much emphasis on techniques, deadlines and benchmarks are highly inadequate. IT investments yield no visible return and the organisation's development stagnates.

This book explains how the physical and virtual worlds of today relate to each other and provides organisations with a method to achieve better results from all those changes where IT plays an important role. Based on the so-called IBAFrame, six instruments of change are presented that help provide appropriate directions and develop true 'change-ability'. Both the 'hard' and 'soft' aspects of organisational, IT-related changes are discussed.

On the 'hard' side, changes involve issues such as techniques, processes, structure and assessment. On the 'soft' side, the main focus is on people, how to get them involved and how to stimulate their learning processes. The transformational competence model helps understand which human skills play a crucial role, as, after all, it is a people's job. Changing IT in six outlines the theory and provides a competence assessment method. Moreover, the described approach is illustrated by two practical case studies: one of them concerns the merging of two organisations; the other describes the implementation of a shared service centre for IT management processes.
