Conversation about a child as a donor
Paperback72 pagina’sEngels
This book takes a look behind the scenes at the procedures surrounding organ or tissue donation by children. It is intended as an informative reference book, but it also offers practical tools for professionals. This book is also about the numerous issues
that precede and/or follow actually asking parents to consent to donation. To avoid any misunderstanding: the purpose of this
book is not to increase the number of donors.
It seeks only to improve the quality of the care and decision making that is inextricably connected to donation by and for children. The book also describes cases and quotes parents who participated in the research that formed part of the foundation for this book. We are extremely grateful to those parents who were willing to share their experiences with us.
Dr. Marion Siebelink, after many years working as a nurse in a paediatric intensive care unit and as donor coordinator, earned her PhD with her thesis The child as donor. She now works at the UMCG (Groningen University Medical Centre) as a member of the Groningen Transplant Centre and as a researcher.
Prof. Harry van de Wiel is Professor of Health Psychology at the RUG (University of Groningen) and head of the Expertise Centre for Communication, Leadership
Development, Assessment and Cooperation at the UMCG.
Floor van de Wiel, Msc. is a mobility scientist and sports psychologist and also employed as (web) editor for the Ahmas Foundation in Groningen.
