Prior to meeting my husband, I used to think about Autism in terms of vulnerable children who have speech problems and those who cannot support themselves and therefore need to be supported by care givers for all their lives. Little did I know that Autism has variations and that the condition affects people differently. After living with my husband, i got exposed to the fact that there are so many people on the autism spectrum, who are living productively in society; with successful careers and whose condition can easily go undetected. However, these people struggle with a number of psychological problems which make their lives difficult.This revelation opened my eyes to the reality of Mental Health and how victims suffer alone in silence. I talk about Depression as a mental Health Disorder as well as the topic of Mental Health and the work place. I hope that people wake up to the Mental Health scourge, break the stigma surrounding this topic as well as making the environment in which we live, safe for everyone to enjoy sobriety.
