Hedendaagse Beeldhouwkunst uit Australië en Nederland Den Haag Sculptuur 07 15 juni t/m 9 september 2007
In 2007 viert Den Haag Sculptuur haar tiende verjaardag met een bijzondere jubileumtentoonstelling over hedendaagse Australische beeldhouwkunst en kunst in de openbare ruimte: DE OVERKANT / DOWN UNDER.
De tentoonstelling concentreert zich in het kader van ruim 400 jaar contact tussen Australië en Nederland op het werk van hedendaagse kunstenaars uit Australië èn Nederland met kunstenaars die zich laten inspireren door ontdekkingsreizen vroeger en nu. Den Haag Sculptuur nodigde kunstenaars uit om aan de hand van een speciaal opdrachtthema, Mapping The System, met een nieuw werk een futuristische, politiek-maatschappelijke of technologische laag aan te boren in het hoofdthema van avontuur en verlangen. Door de samenwerking met vele gastlocaties kon Den Haag Sculptuur het publiek uitgebreider kennis laten maken met alles wat Australische kunst naast beeldhouwkunst in de openbare ruimte te bieden heeft: video, fotografie, fragiele sculptuurvormen, (binnen) installaties.
In deze jubileum-catalogus wordt in vogelvlucht tien jaar Den Haag Sculptuur in kaart gebracht. Daarnaast is er veel aandacht voor het avontuurlijke thema met informatie over alle deelnemende kunstenaars, foto's op locatie van de kunstwerken en veel extra's zoals een door mapping geïnspireerde vormgeving, essays over hedendaagse kunst en cultuur in Austalië en een speciale sectie Me & Australia/Australia & Me waarin uiteenlopende Australië-kenners hun persoonlijke verhouding met down under prijsgeven.

In 2007 The Hague Sculpture is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a special jubilee exhibition on contemporary Australian sculpture and art in the public space: DE OVERKANT / DOWN UNDER. In connection with over 400 years of relations between Australia and The Netherlands, the exhibition brings you works of art by contemporary artists from both countries who have drawn inspiration from the exploratory expeditions of the past and present. The Hague Sculpture invited artists to tap into a futuristic, political-social or technological layer in the main theme of adventure and desire, focusing on the special assignment theme, Mapping The System.
Thanks to the cooperation with many guestlocations, The Hague Sculpture can offer the public the chance to become even more familiar with contemporary Australian art in a broader sense including video, photography, fragile sculpture and indoors-installations.
This jubilee-catalogue outlines ten years of The Hague Sculpture. In addition, there is substantial attention for the adventurous theme, as well as information on all participating artists, photos on site of the artworks and lots of extras including mapping-inspired design, essays on contemporary art and culture in Australia and a special section entitled Me & Australia / Australia & Me in which a wide range of Australia experts reveal their under.
