I.Introduction II.Middle Rif III.Eastern Rif IV.Western Rif V.Southern Rif VI.Rif in History and CivilisationIntroductionThis book, “Discover the Rif", comes to complete the photographic documentation journey that I had started more than 14 years ago and culminated in two books; the first one entitled “The Rif: a living heritage”, which was published in the Netherlands and translated into the Dutch language in 2016, and the second book is “The popular Hirak in The Rif: From a photographic and documentary perspective”, which was published in Granada, Spain, both in Arabic and English in 2018. Unlike my previous books, this one is written in Tamazight (Berber) and English. This publication represents an important value in its documentary aspect to introduce the natural sites of the land of Rif, and it is the first work of its kind in the region where photographic works have never been placed in this way, and covered all these vast geographical areas, monuments and beautiful scenes found in the wild and various aspects of life. A fact which has been ignored by many people, who are interested in environmental and biological diversity, especially those devoted to photography. However, some photographers and those involved in this domain, made many field visits, but they only published their works on social media, and never compiled them to be published in books, displayed in libraries and immortalized in history.starting from the huge scarcity of such works, I have begun documenting a variety of natural and cultural aspects of the fathomless Rif, for years now. A virtually complete solution to the prominent problem of the absence of photographic books that introduce the region, emerged in front od me. It is the solution that I summarize as follows: Knowing Rif as a culture, nature or space and make it well-known to the general Rifians and non-Rifians, may well be done through photography.Immediately, I began working alone, travelling through mountains, valleys, forests and villages that have long been forgotten. I slept in the wild a myriad of times, driven by a compelling determination, without the support of any governmental or non-governmental body whatsoever, taking advantage of all my time and my modest photographic equipment to complete this work over several years. A work which I imposed on myself for the sake of my land Rif. Now, while I look into the path that it made after a two-year discontinuity, due to my involvement and documentation of the popular movement in Rif, it has finally become embodied on paper. Awaiting the final arrangements, I hope this book would help discover the wonderful life and the picturesque natural sites of my great land Rif, which are still unknown to many.Certainly, I could not visit and see the land of Rif in all its details, but at least, I tried to photograph the largest possible number of known and unknown natural sites and locations along the vast tribes. I made a promise to myself that I would not give in to any circumstances whatsoever, that would prevent this exhausting and enjoyable task from being completed. Finally, I would like to refer here to the fact that I visited all the the natural sites documented in this book. I published some of them on facebook and youtube, and others have not been published yet. It is also worth noting that the natural images that were employed, cover the time period from 2011 to 2020 and in the four different seasons.
