"Dovetailing Economics and Political Science points to the enduring relevance of the concepts of ontology and epistemology, as well as to the paramount importance of the paradigms of Mercantilism, Liberalism, Structuralism, and the Critical and Postmodern schools of thought. If one is to make sense of the tensions that typify the relations between states and markets in the present-day international system, one should avoid getting lost in the jungle of competing and/or overlapping theories, but instead take a step back and focus on the ideal types that paradigms offer. This book takes that angle of incidence and therefore provides added value for undergraduate students interested in International Political Economy.
Dr. Nienke de Deugd (1977) is assistant professor of International Political Economy at the University of Groningen (Department of International Relations). She studied History and International Relations and received her PhD in Arts (2005) for a dissertation on Ukraine and the issue of participation with the Euro-Atlantic security community. Her research focuses on European integration and transition processes in Eastern Europe.
Prof. dr. Herman W. Hoen (1960) holds a chair in International Political Economy at the University of Groningen (Department of International Relations). In 1992, he received a PhD in Economics. He was visiting professor at the Georg August University (Göttingen) and Bilkent University (Ankara) and published extensively on the political economy of transition from a centrally planned to a market economy in Eastern Europe."
