Educational Effectiveness
An introduction to international and Flemish research on schools, teachers and classes
Does one school have a more positive impact on its pupils than the other? Are some teachers more effective than others? Does it matter to which class a pupil belongs? And if such differences in effectiveness do exist, where do they come from? These are the key questions in educational effectiveness research. The present booklet offers an introduction to the international work in this domain.
Furthermore, it provides a summary of some of the research into educational effectiveness which has been carried out at the K.U.Leuven (Flanders, Belgium). As yet, that work has predominantly been centred on secondary education, with achievement and well-being at school as the main topics. But also the long-term effects on choices and success in higher education are dealt with, as well as
the importance of the school climate and the differences between boys and girls.
