'Light Image Imagination' bestaat uit essays over de audiovisuele mediapraktijk, -theorie en -geschiedenis. De auteurs richten zich op de groep lezers die de grenzen tussen wetenschap, kunst en technologie niet als absoluut beschouwt.

De nadruk ligt op de discours van de negentiende en twintigste eeuw. Hierbij komen innovaties in kunst, media en technologie en hun media-archeologische en filosofische achtergronden aan bod. De grenzen tussen de letteren, wetenschappen en geesteswetenschappen worden losgelaten om het onderzoek naar beelden te versterken en te verrijken. Dit wordt ondersteund door de opmaak van het boek, waarin tekst en beeld samenwerken om de dialoog met het associatieve te verbinden.
