Milica Tomić addresses topics of political violence, socio-economic asymmetries, courage and solidarity from different angles, deciphering historical events linked to the political and social reality of the region of former Yugoslavia but aligning those also with contemporary circumstances. Tomić’s work often begins from personal and individual histories, using them as points of entry to interrogate broader structures of power. Her practice exposes the structural and systemic conditions that enable political violence and injustice, at the same time she interrogates the erosion of personal responsibility that sustains such systems - echoing concerns famously articulated by Hannah Arendt. The publication On Love Afterwards brings forward nine expert texts on Milica Tomić’s practice. It follows the conceptual logic of the exhibition, but at the same time it unfolds the processes behind particular works in an attempt to capture the ephemeral as well as material aspects of the artist's practice.
