It was, above all, a struggle to establish a clinic and keep it going through the brutalities of a military coup and the prelude to civil war. But it was, too, Liberian humor and laughter, the mysterious rainforest with its pygmy hippos, endless beaches with incredible surf, and a little Liberian girl called Esther. And it was love.
