“Pull up!” looks at recent history focusing on two key factors. First how to assess people’s behavior: people think and act on impulse. The second key factor is productivity. When productivity improves, life should become more comfortable for everybody, but historically the benefits have been hijacked by a minority. After WW2 Europe was so fed up with injustice and cruelty that momentum arose for the creation of a harmonious society. New rules of the game were written resulting in 30 years of prosperity for all.But in the early eighties supply-side economics, changed everything. Reducing taxes for rich people and corporations would lead to more investment and thus trickle down to society as a whole. Instead we ended in a negative spiral for the next decades until now. How this happened is illustrated by observations and experiences of the author. The moral shift, the inertia of traditional political parties, the scaremongering, the abuse of referenda, the weakening of investigative journalism, the polarization and misleading on social media, it all exacerbated the sentiment of hopelessness and fear.The book ends with recommendations for voters as well as for politicians.
