After years of loyal service the chairs in the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam deserved a new life. Artist Sara Vrugt worked over a period of months on a new upholstery design for the seating, together with local residents, churchgoers and Amsterdammers. Collected stories and anecdotes about the Oude Kerk and the neighbourhood served as a source of inspiration. Amsterdam poet laureate, Anna Enquist, distilled these stories into new prose, each word embellishing one of the 118 chairs.
