The call to know the world
Constructivism seems to be one of the most prominent philosophies of teaching and learning in the world at this moment. The overall majority of innovations in this field claim to be in some way or another based on, or associated with constructivism. When judging the merits of constructivist education, an assessment from a stewardship education perspective seems most appropriate. As a result of close interaction between Driestar educatief Christian University at Gouda in the Netherlands and North-West University (Potchefstroom) in South Africa, the Driestar educatief research unit Education and Identity engaged in an exploration of constructivist theory and practice in Australia, The Netherlands, South Africa and several other places. The project has now culminated in the publication of this book containing a nuanced approach to epistemology from a Christian point of view as well as reflections about the impact of an alternative approach to constructivism on education in general, and on the theory and practice of teacher education in particular. Because of its theoretical as well as practical focus, the contents of the book may also be useful to educational managers in formulating their vision.
