.We live in a country with a multicultural society that goes back some 70 years. In a diversity of cultures and nationalities ,we live together, among each other and witheach other. In recent years, people of colour have been obligated to adopt Dutch norms and values. In my opinion, this has been one of the causes of increased polarization inour country – thinking in terms of us versus them. Research also shows that Dutch people feel that polarization in this country is growing. 75 percent of Dutch people believein an increase in differences of opinion on societal issues in the Netherlands. This is what the Sociaal en Cultureel Planbureau (Societal and Cultural Planning Agency)announced in its report ‘Burgerperspectieven 2019’ (source:NOS). Both politicians and the man and woman in the street expect migrants and refugees to become citizens and tointegrate. For me, the big question that comes to mind is:What about the integration of white Dutch people in this multicultural society?
