The present dissertation on the referendum in the Portugese constitutional experience, submitted at Universiteit Leiden, is the first global study of the referendum in Portugal tracing the historical evolution of that institution from the beginning of the 19th century until now and seeks to fill a significant gap in legal and political theory, and in philosophy studies in Portugal.
