Stories from Erasmus MC, changes in care, science and education is not just the title of this book, but above all the continuation of a movement that was started four years ago by Erasmus MC. At that time, the University Medical Centre in Rotterdam initiated the new strategic vision Heading for 013 with key values such as joining forces together, openness through dialogue and acting and thinking in transparency. It is a new vision on dealing and cooperating with patients and students, amongst members of staff internally, and with professionals and organisations outside of Erasmus MC. The initiators are Hans Büller, chairman of the Executive Board, Theo Lankamp, the director of Heading for 013, and Hennie Koeken, strategic communications advisor. Many forerunners, ambassadors and other professionals have rallied behind their philosophy and have committed themselves to them. The goal is clear. To openly share knowledge and experiences and to engage into a dialogue about what can be improved in the care for patients, science, research and medical education; the core tasks of university medical centre. In this book patients, students, professionals and external contacts, including GPs and health insurance companies, give a candid account of their experience in, and with Erasmus MC. They talk about what Heading for 013 means for them; about their inspirations and struggles; about what can be improved, what goes well, what should never happen again and what the future could look like. This is a book filled with personal stories and every page displays the hope for change and the enthusiasm to contribute to that.
