The PhD was written under supervision of Professor John House at the Courtauld Institute of Art (University of London) in London in 1995. For this research Dutch art historian Liesbeth Heenk studied 98 percent of all Van Gogh drawings that were hitherto known. These drawings were in private and public collections all over the world. Where this was possible, the drawings were taken out of their frames so the paper and watermark could be checked.
