A European and Belgian Perspective
This volume reviews the economics of Climate Change with particular emphasis on Belgian and European policy making. It builds mainly upon policy papers from the CLIMNEG consortium financed by the Belgian Science Policy Office (PODO II research program). All aspects of climate policy are covered. Starting with the economics of climate change at world level and how to deal with the scientific uncertainty on future damages and costs, the volume discusses the progress made in the economics of international negotiations: what agreements can work and are stable.
Europe has always been a forerunner when it comes to climate change policy. This volume discusses possible post-Kyoto commitments for the European Union and discusses in more depth the working of the European carbon permit market and the role of banking of permits.
More specifically for Belgium, this volume has contributions on the role of Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM), the impact of climate change policy on industrial activity as well as on the transport sector, the electricity production and the role of biomass production.
