Full Professor at the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the Vrije University Brussel (VUB), legal scholar, criminologist, founder of the Law, Science, Technology & Society (LSTS) research group, he has been not only a pioneering mind and a multifaceted writer, but also a mentor and infallible reference for many in Europe and beyond.

A singular thinker of the commons, a theorist of law who is glad to cultivate a collective piece of land with his hands, and a deeply serious scholar with a famous soft spot for humour, he has inspired and keeps inspiring researchers and activists of different generations and backgrounds.
